A Destination Family Reunion is within Reach When Andrea suddenly found herself as the chairperson of the family reunion committee for her clan’s upcoming get together, she was convinced that she had drawn the ultimate short straw.
“I wondered if it wasn’t too late to offer to select the family reunion invitations or even to plan the family reunion activities that we would have at the event,” she recalled. “I decided right away that choosing the family reunion location would be very stressful.”
Andrea’s family reunion planning committee was comprised of herself and four of her cousins who each had their own best ideas on how to select the perfect location for the family reunion. Cousin John suggested that Andrea telephone or e-mail at least twenty percent of the invitees to the reunion and ask them to weigh in with their thoughts on a destination for the family gathering.
Since the entire family only meets on such a grand scale once every five years, Andrea knew that many of them were prepared to travel for at least a long weekend and that some members were planning to turn the family reunion into a vacation. Since the family is dispersed throughout the country, family reunion locations throughout the United States were up for consideration.
In addition to selecting a location, the planning committee also needed to learn what type of climate each family member at the reunion would prefer and if everyone could agree on the style of dining they would most enjoy. This information would be important for planning meals during the family reunion and for scheduling meals during down time when the attendees would not be gathered for family reunion activities.
“Rather than spend so much time making phone calls and e-mailing everyone about their preferences for the perfect family reunion, I wanted to have everyone take an online poll to determine which places were most appealing,” Andrea explained.
Where should your group go on vacation? It was then that Andrea’s cousin Kevin suggested that she send along an e-mail to each family member with a convenient online tool that assists family reunion planners in determining the location that best suits their collective needs for accommodations, activities and even sightseeing. The online vacation planner proved to be an invaluable resource for deciding where the family would host its upcoming reunion.
Approximately twenty-five family members were randomly selected to take part in the poll and asked to report back to Andrea about which of the family reunion destinations were most desirable. The top selections were then narrowed down further to a list of three finalists. The family reunion planning committee then cast their votes for the final location choice.
Everyone from 85-year old Grandpa James to 11-year old cousin Gloria enjoyed the family reunion in Boston where they explored everything from walking the Freedom Trail to watching a game in Fenway Park.
